Following its success in schools all over Greece, Alpha Bank Cyprus Ltd is implementing the Educational Program
“Currency and Transactions. From yesterday to nowadays” in Primary and Secondary Education schools in Cyprus.
The Program was created by
Alpha Bank’s Numismatic Collection, one of the leading collections internationally, which numbers around 11,000 coins.
Through a specially designed “
Educational Suitcase”, students are given the opportunity to appreciate the value of currency, understand the
historical development of transactions, as well as enhance their social skills and spirit of cooperation through group educational activities.
Children have the opportunity to hold in their hands faithful replicas of coins from all eras: The tetradrachm of ancient Athens (a coin with a 400-year history in antiquity), the denarius of Augustus (Roman era), the solidus of Constantine the Great (Byzantium), the grosia (Ottoman period), the drachma (Modern Greek State) and, of course, the Euro (today).
The Program aims to familiarise students with coins through experiential learning and play and is approved by the Cyprus Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth.
